Gand Concert Sound Provides NEXO and Yamaha System for Fox Fire Festival

GLENVIEW, Ill. (2008) — Known to most Midwest concert promoters as “the NEXO guys,” Gand Concert Sound of Glenview, Ill. has completed the first half of the year with record utilization of their expansive NEXO speaker inventory. Gand supplied over 140 NEXO GEO T Boxes in June alone for such artists as Dickey Betts (also using a Yamaha M7CL console), Jo Dee Messina, Pat Benatar, Merle Haggard, Charlie Daniels, 38 Special, Shooter Jennings, Blue Truth, Gavin DeGraw, Frankie Valli, REO Speedwagon, Sawyer Brown, Wayne Newton, Trisha Yearwood, Loretta Lynn, Kenny Rogers, Muddy Waters Blues Fest and Herbie Hancock.

“We had over 100 NEXO speakers out the last weekend of June which gave us a chance to mop our warehouse floors,” states President Gary Gand. The company took delivery of another full GEO T system in March of this year including 24 NEXO GEO T tangent array cabinets, 12 CD18 subwoofers and thirty Yamaha PC9501N amps along with NEXO 242 processors, some Alpha boxes for side fills and more PS series cabinets for stage monitors and front fill. Infrastructure was added to support the new systems including new snakes, power distribution from Motion Labs, and rigging. Tim Swan GCS vice president said “We purchased two additional GEO T stackers to allow us to provide them to venues without rigging such as outdoor parks and small theaters.” In addition, the Gand staff developed a rolling stacker, which allows six GEO T speakers to literally roll off the truck and onto a stage, pre-aimed and ready to rock.

In early August, Gand lent a hand to Fox Fire Fest in Elgin, Ill. With production managers Butch Wilhelmi and Patrick Raddatz, and Gand system techs Joe Perona, Adam Rosenthal, Bob Murr, the team provided audio for three stages: the main stage featured 24 GEO-Ts, 12 CD-18s, a Yamaha PM5D at front of house; the side stage featured 16 GEO-Ts, 8 CD-18s, a Yamaha M7CL at front of house; and the kids stage featured a new GEO S line array and a Yamaha LS9 digital console. Friday’s concert featured the Elgin Symphony Orchestra, Saturday evening Blues Traveler, and Sunday Sister Hazel. The band Starship performed as the ‘B’ stage headliner.
“We have provided sound systems for the "Elgin Symphony Orchestra" for decades, notes Swan. The NEXO GEO T system is particularly well suited for symphonic reinforcement. Symphony FOH mixer Adam Rosenthal says "not only is it a very accurate and musical system, the cardioid pattern is especially crucial when managing 60 large diaphragm condenser mics scattered about the stage." The day after the symphony, the same system rocked the town with Blues Traveler.

“We've used GEO-T for hundreds of shows, and it is always amazing how this system can reproduce every nuance of a singer like Tony Bennett one night and follow that up the next night with bone-crushing SPL for Ted Nugent, always with the same end result...fantastic audio quality that clients, audiences, artists and engineers rave about.”

Gand Concert Sound Nets Another Nexo

Glenview, IL (April 18, 2007)--Gand Concert Sound of Glenview, IL recently took delivery of another turnkey Nexo Geo T system, along with two new LS9 digital consoles from Yamaha.

President Gary Gand said, "As the first major Nexo concert system provider in the USA, we are committed to Geo T and wanted to get ready before the 2007 summer season heats up."

2006 was GCS' biggest year for Nexo rentals, and included several shows in stadiums as well as many outdoor local events, including Run Hit Wonder for Nike; USG Corporation's special event "Only the Beginning" with musical group Chicago; the Elgin Symphony Orchestra at the new Sears Centre; Ted Nugent at Rockford IL's On the Waterfront fest; Jessica Simpson at the (former) Tweeter Center shed; and Jewel at the Rialto Square Theatre, recorded for WTTW Soundstage by HDReady.

The new system includes two-dozen Geo T tangent array cabinets with rigging, 12 CD18 subwoofers, a dozen NX242 digital controllers, and 30 Yamaha PC9501N amps, which more than doubles the company's inventory. Systems manager Joe Perona said "the additional amplifier inventory allows us to bridge the amps resulting in 25 percent more power into the subs." Gand has also added more Nexo PS15s to its wedge monitor inventory.

The new Nexo NxStream software is running all Gand systems with the installation of Nx-Tension cards to all 20 NX242 controllers, which also adds Ethernet capability to the amp racks. System tech Adam Rosenthal said, "We set up, monitor, and adjust all NX controller functions from our laptops via Ethernet cable, remote from FOH."

Gand Concert Sound Takes On Nexo, Yamaha

Glenview, IL (April 20, 2006)--Gand Concert Sound has taken delivery of new Yamaha PM5D RH and M7CL digital mixing consoles and 16 Nexo Geo S loudspeakers, as well as additional Geo T tangent array loudspeakers, CD18 subwoofers and PS15 stage monitor wedges.

"After extensive research and testing of the numerous digital consoles on the market, our concert sound team settled on the Yamaha models due to overall sonic quality as well as 'industry standard' status," explained Gary Gand, president of the Glenview, IL-based sound company, which is celebrating more than 30 years in business.

One of the earliest U.S. sound companies to invest in Nexo Geo T technology, Gand Concert Sound deployed the first arena-scale Geo T-based sound reinforcement system at the Georgia Dome (in Atlanta) in 2003 for a Christian group event/conference.

"This recent expansion of our Nexo inventory comes as a direct result of demand from our top clients," noted Tim Swan, vice president of Gand Concert Sound. Earlier this year, Gand Concert Sound was invited to provide an even larger Geo T system at the Georgia Dome for an international corporate show featuring Elton John. The system, designed by Chris Beale, now of CBA U.K., was headlined by a left-center-right configuration, including a center array made up of 27 loudspeakers, the largest Geo T column flown to date in the U.S.

"We put that center column up with only two motors, and the whole rig weighed less than 3,000 pounds," Gand said. "Coverage from the front rows to the top 'nose-bleed' seats shared equal clarity."

Recent Gand Concert Sound clients also include Jessica Simpson, Nike, Herbalife, Cheap Trick, the BoDeans, Nickel Creek, Van Morrison, and Black-Eyed Peas.
