Taylor Guitars Presents Chris Proctor ![]() It is a pleasure to welcome Chris back for a workshop/mini-concert. Chris Proctor has made a reputation in the world of contemporary guitar for more than twenty years as an original composer and technical innovator, and as a tireless performer and teacher of his style and technique across the United States, Canada and Mexico. Bridging the gap between Leo Kottke’s ground breaking solo work which began in the sixties, and the Windham Hill guitarists of the eighties. Chris is a pioneer in the solo genre who has paved the way for others and helped make solo steel-string guitar an respected form of contemporary original music. Since winning the US National Fingerstyle Guitar Competition in 1982, he has toured, recorded and performed steadily, producing nine recordings under the Windham Hill, Flying Fish, Rounder and Sugarhouse labels. He has been an endorser and clinician for Taylor Guitars since 1984. To honor him Taylor Guitars created the "Chris Proctor Signature Model" guitar in 2001, and manufactured limited numbers of this instrument for international distribution. His music and career have been profiled in Guitar Player, Acoustic Guitar, and Fingerstyle Guitar magazines. The Chris Proctor Collection, Chris' brand new release, takes 16 of the classic solo guitar compositions drawn from his first six recordings, and presents newly recorded and current versions of each of them in all of their glory. The combination of the evolution of these pieces, the audiophile recording techniques, and Chris' mature guitar artistry place this CD into the "must hear" column, and makes it a perfect bookend to his 2000 release, Under the Influence.
