Gand sales associates and customers got a chance to test drive Taylor's new T5 guitar today. Rick Fagan from Taylor brought in a honey sunburst T5 with a tiger striped maple top (see photo). This axe is something that all pickers have been dreaming of but nobody has been able to create up until now.
Electric or acoustic; rock, folk or jazz? YES!
The built-in Expression pickup system gives you a multitude of acoustic sounds through any amp and with a flick of the top mounted 5 way switch, the back / bridge hum-bucker (don't let it's single coil appearance fool you) kicks in to give you a fat electric sound with the added warmth of a hollow body. You can even play it acoustically (without plugging it in) and it sounds great.
Pro guitar customer Greg Nashen put it through the paces playing everything from Sleepy John Estes to Django Reinhardt to BB King. He said "This is IT." and we all knew what he meant. Gary Gand said "It sounds like an arch top, but plays like a solid body. I guess its a flat top!" Our new motto is "Go flat with T5."
The body feels like a 335, plays like a Country Gent, has the warmth of an L5, but sings like a Paul. Maybe it is a new bird. It is an electric that thinks its an acoustic. Maybe its an acoustic that knows its an electric. Could it be an Eclectric?
We'll have 'em in time for summer vacation in many finishes and woods. Watch for our premier party invitation around the end of May.
